supermoon, supergirl {+ a giveaway}

This summer marks 4.5 years of living in Los Angeles, 4.5 years of living in the same apartment on the west side (#represent). This fact doesn’t appear astounding on its own, but what if I told you that this is the longest I have ever lived in one place of residence? What if I told you that the longest I’d lived anywhere previously was 3 years?

Sometimes I lament the fact that I don’t have a childhood home to return to, that I don’t have one city I can call my hometown. But growing up as a military brat and coming from a split family, those are the cards I was dealt.

Every now and then I’ll find myself dreaming of owning a home, of raising a family there and spending years and years without having to pack boxes or rent a moving truck. But then I’ll also remember that, well, I actually like the constant change. I’m a creature of habit for sure, but I like variety, exploring new parts of town, decorating new spaces. I’m used to the constant moving and shifting, and sure it’s had its hardships (man, has it had its hardships), but I also think it’s forced me to be bold, to appreciate the small length of time we’re given (in one place, in one home, in one life). To travel the world and experience new things (right now I’m actually on a trip to Chicago).

So today, I want to encourage you to be bold in whatever small way you can. For me, today, it’s wearing these extreme bell sleeves (a wardrobe item I’ve been coveting for months and that makes me feel like a real life Supergirl) from Austin e-commerce brand, Supermoon. The brand is Asian cool meets west coast casual, and I’m really digging this quirky fusion of styles. Audrey Yang, the founder of the brand, was actually raised in Houston and now lives in Austin. I was born in Japan, grew up (mostly) in Houston, studied/worked in Austin, and now live in Los Angeles – we are basically soul sisters.

  1. I love these fun pictures! Great post! I might take this idea because I have a shirt I’m thinking about now that I ADORE and feel so confident in. Don’t you love those pieces?! (:

  2. Seems like such a cool company! I totally agree with the whole “can’t stay in one place for long” mindset. I grew up in a split military family so change of location was about the only consistent. Thanks for sharing part of your life with us!

    1. Ah yes, so we’ve had very similar experiences! I’ve been to ten schools in my lifetime, which was really hard growing up – but I think those challenges helped shape me into the adult I am today. ๐Ÿ™‚
