saturday picnic

I worked all weekend long (and am impossibly exhausted today), but the weekend before last we went on a picnic at the Old LA Zoo in Griffith Park. One of my husband’s coworkers invited us, and since I 1) love picnics and 2) hadn’t yet seen the Old Zoo, I was of course up for it. I baked a quiche and a loaf of homemade bread (that we paired with brie and apricot preserves…the best), and they brought a bunch of goodies from an Asian market. It was a wonderfully beautiful day, and I was so grateful for the “heat wave” that hit LA that week (this Texas girl needed some “hot” weather). The abandoned zoo was neat, but I wish they had signs telling you which animals used to inhabit which areas. Afterwards we walked around and even took a ride on the historic carousel. Next we’ll have to visit the actual LA zoo, but I’m hoping for many more picnics in our near future.
