texas exes

Texas Exes is an organization for University of Texas alumni. Whitney and I haven’t paid for the membership, but one of his grad school friends got an email about a Texas Exes event being held in Los Angeles. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but you do have to pay a little bit more. Last weekend the organization held a BBQ for Texas alumni at an old ranch here in LA (we had to take a pretty small and bumpy dirt road up a canyon to get there). They brought in barbeque from Salt Lick (in Austin) and Shiner beer. They were also supposed to bring in Blue Bell ice cream, but it fell through (sad face). It was fun getting together with fellow Texans, singing the fight song (it has been a while!), and getting to know some of Whitney’s grad school friends. Obviously, barbeque is heavy on the meat, so I filled up on Dr. Pepper and potato salad. Oh, and ice cream (not Blue Bell). You know…just being really healthy over here. I also ran into an old classmate from my summer at UTLA, and we won their first raffle prize, which was exciting.

  1. Hey there,

I’m in charge of social media at the Texas Exes and stumbled upon your blog post. Just wanted to thank you for coming out to our LA Chapter’s event! I hope you had a great time, despite the lack of Blue Bell ice cream (big bummer!).

In addition to getting lower ticket prices at chapter events, official Texas Exes members get a whole host of other benefits, too. I encourage you to check them out at the link below! You can also join online.

    Happy writing!
