This past weekend we made homemade ice cream! We got our ice cream maker as a wedding gift and have used it once before, but I wanted to make it a priority to make ice cream this summer (because honestly, what is summer without ice cream?). We decided to make strawberry, and it was delicious! Of course, it’s much easier to go buy a bucket at the grocery store, but it’s all apart of the fun and the feeling of accomplishment when you take that first bite. We had to start the process a bit earlier since you soak the fresh strawberries in a a yummy lemon/sugar juice, and we had to freeze the ice cream for two hours after making (the ice cream maker creates a very soft serve). What I mean to say: this isn’t a task you take on when you are in immediate need of ice cream. But we had a lot of fun making it, and it was wonderful to eat strawberry ice cream (it isn’t a flavor we normally purchase), so I’d say this bucket list item was a big success. I can’t wait to try new recipes and experiment to see what other ice cream flavors we can create!

The finished product. Yum!
What are your favorite summertime treats? We’re making a trip to Austin soon, and I can’t wait to stop by our favorite snow cone trailer!
