Whitney’s and my beach of choice around here is Manhattan Beach, but parking can be difficult to find, and it’s not the closest beach. Since we hadn’t been, we decided to take the (longer) drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. After reading great reviews on Yelp, we hit up Zuma Beach. The drive was pretty, but I wouldn’t say the beach was anything extraordinary over the other Southern California beaches. The sand wasn’t as soft, and it was pretty crowded. However, we did find (free) parking right next to the beach super easily, and there were plenty of bathrooms and tons of volleyball nets. None of our friends could make it this past weekend, so it was just the two of us (hence we didn’t take advantage of the plethora of courts).
It was a very warm and sunny day, and I didn’t mind one bit. I do wish we had packed snacks (we hadn’t been grocery shopping, so our apartment was bare) because I couldn’t stop thinking about food. We were at the beach for a couple of hours and stopped at a really great Mexican food restaurant in Malibu on the way home. The food was great, but the margarita still didn’t live up to my standards. The search continues!
Please disregard his stank face. He was enjoying himself!
There was a helipad right near us, and this helicopter (right past the child in the turquoise shirt) hovered above us before landing; thus, all of our bags were blown over and sand spewed everywhere.
