My husband went on a business trip to Berlin for a week and brought me back some yummy chocolates. It was my first time being in Los Angeles “by myself”, but with great neighbors always around, I survived (and so did Kipling)! We got to enjoy Memorial weekend together going out for wine and cheese, taking a trip to the beach, and seeing a movie at the theater. I’ve been trying to get myself back in the gym more (since I’ve been slacking from my “at least three times a week” to “twice a week”). I still haven’t eaten meat. We went to a baseball game with one of Whitney’s grad school friends, who was in town for a couple of days (Astros won!). We completed season 3 of 24 and finally got caught up on Arrested Development to watch the new season (we’re addicted to Netflix). This past weekend was filled with fun from pizza and bowling to hiking and biking and finally a trip to Disneyland (Whitney’s and my first together). I’ve also been busy finishing my commercial class, shooting my first LA acting gig, and auditioning. And here are some snapshots of what else has been going on in my life lately:
I attempted, and failed, my first detox cleanse. It’s 3 days and actually seems very doable (I had a friend do it for 10!). I was kept full after my first morning smoothie, but lunch (the one you see above), was the death of me. I knew I couldn’t choke it down for three days straight (honestly didn’t know something could taste so horrible), and I was getting nauseous from the multivitamin (those do that to me). Wah wah.
Baking banana bread every time the bananas go bad. Which is every time we have bananas. Which is always.
We were gifted a bunch of beautiful plate settings and serving dishes for our wedding but have had nowhere to display them. I’ve been on the lookout for a low cabinet with glass doors that was deep enough for our dishes, and luckily enough, this man in our neighborhood (who has a yard sale every Saturday) had this for sale! We happened upon it while we were walking Kip, and I was so excited. It’s not the sturdiest or best made piece of furniture in the world, but it fits the qualifications I was looking for and hey, it gives it character. All we need to do now is sand and repaint it.
Because of the new cabinet (above), we had to do some rearranging in our tiny apartment to fit it. Sadly, that means Kipling’s crate has to go. And before you think I’m an awful dog mother, she doesn’t use it anymore! She used to sleep in it at night when we lived in Austin, but since we’ve been in LA, she hasn’t gone in it once (unless she has gotten into trouble!). Seems like Kipling has moved on from it, so I guess I should too. I took this photo for our Craigslist ad (any interested buyers?).
If you were to ask me what my favorite thing in the world is, my answer would always be chocolate chip cookies. I keep a bag of chocolate chips in the fridge, so I can make them whenever the craving hits. Don’t worry, I make half a batch (I mean, only two of us are eating ’em).
And just for good measure, I’ll throw this one of Kip in here. This girl is always hangin’ around (mostly when we have food).
