My time with my sister came and went all too quickly. She came to visit for her Spring Break and spent half the week with me in Los Angeles and half the week with one of her close friends on a roadtrip up to San Francisco. One of the hardest things about moving to Los Angeles is being so far away from family. I didn’t expect this to be a problem until I had to say goodbye to my mother after her visit in February and weeks later when I had to say goodbye to my sister (I’ll admit I cried both times). I’m used to being no more than a few hours of a car ride away, but now that we live across the country, we don’t really know when we’ll see each other next. My sister and I may bicker and have our moments, but we are really very close, and I love spending time with her. I had a great time jam packing her trip with outdoor adventures and Los Angeles attractions. It was also nice to just spend time with another girl (besides Kipling of course).
One of the great things about moving to a new city is you get to show it off to your visitors! I didn’t have much time with my mom when she visited, so unfortunately I didn’t get to show her around LA. But I had a list of “To-Do”s for Anna’s trip, and we got around to just about all of them. Plus, the weather was beautiful that week, so I was thankful for that.
I took my DSLR with me the first day we spent together, but after that we had way more fun using our Instax instant cameras and our phones. The first day (after a yummy breakfast at Cafe Laurent) we went on a (much needed) shopping trip…for 7 hours. Whitney doesn’t much enjoy shopping, so I was glad to have someone to go with who wouldn’t mind spending hours sifting through clothing. We started at Santa Monica Pier and walked the boardwalk. Then we walked to Main Street and got some great finds again at The Closet (thrift shop). We then made the trek back (thankful for the sunny weather) to 3rd Street Promenade and muscled our way through all of the stores. I’ve been on the search for pants that actually fit me well, as well as some basics. I purged a lot of old/ill-fitting/torn clothing before our move, so my wardrobe isn’t too big right now. I mostly need to have some basic clothes that will work for auditions and meetings, so don’t worry, I didn’t go overboard.
We had dinner with family the next night, but I’ll talk about the rest of Anna’s trip in my next post. These are the ones I took with my DSLR, so the rest will be phone photos!
