brownies from scratch

I get cravings. Often. Last night I craved brownies, which meant I had to bake brownies. Lucky for me, I had all of the ingredients in my kitchen to bake this batch (because I was not going to be happy about venturing out to the grocery store in this cold front we have been having). Come to think of it, I don’t know if I have ever baked brownies from scratch, but here I did! This recipe is more chocolatey than sweet…if that makes sense. Feels a lot lighter too. This recipe was so quick and easy and is from my Better Homes and Gardens cookbook.

Nothing better than the smell of melting chocolate.

Ingredients:

*1/2 cup butter

*3 ounces unsweetened chocolate

*1 cup sugar

*2 eggs

*1 teaspoon vanilla

*2/3 cup all-purpose flour

*1/4 teaspoon baking soda

“1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease either an 8 inch or 9 inch square pan.

2. Melt the butter and chocolate over low heat (stir continuously) and remove from heat to cool.

3. Stir sugar into cooled chocolate mixture and add eggs one at a time (beating just until combined). Stir in vanilla.

4. Stir flour and baking soda in a small bowl. Add to chocolate mixture and stir until combined.

5. Spread into pan and bake for 30 minutes (8 inch pan) or 25 minutes (9 inch pan).”

6. Eat.

Wasn't able to snap a photo before my mouth devoured a couple of pieces.

Please excuse the dirty stove top and the poor lighting conditions in which these photos were taken.

Hope this satisfies your chocolate craving!
