I was never a fan of Valentine’s Day. It probably had to do mostly with my lack of gift receiving, chocolate boxes, and teddy bears for me to stuff in my school locker. For the past four years, I have had a Valentine, but that doesn’t mean my feelings have turned a complete 180 towards the holiday. We should show our love to those we care about every day, BUT we know with the stress and packed schedules of every day life, we don’t always. Maybe I’m being hypocritical, but I think it’s okay to use this day as an excuse to spread some extra lovin’. We didn’t do anything crazy, but I didn’t want this day to come and go without any recognition. So I got a pizza fresh from the grocery store deli, popped it in the oven along with some fresh french bread, tossed together a salad, and sat down to a candlelit dinner with my fiance.
We took the evening to relax with a trip to the park with Kipling and a silly movie to cuddle up to on the couch. Oh, and I can’t forget chocolate cake. Who could forget chocolate cake?
Hershey Syrup Chocolate Cake-My grandma made this countless times growing up, and it is my favorite cake recipe. It is incredibly simple to make and incredibly decadent as well. Excuse the bits of chocolate chips you see on top…I got too impatient to wait for the chocolate to melt completely.
February 14th also marked Kipling’s first birthday. I feel a bit bad for not throwing her a birthday party, but I’m sure she recognized the extra loving I gave her on this day as well. After a trip to Petco to buy her a new toy and some special treats, we took a nice long walk around the neighborhood. And after playing with her rope all afternoon, she also got to play fetch at the park (which I mentioned just above).
Kipling met several friends on the way to the park to play fetch. Some of them were a little guarded (both physically…and emotionally, haha).
I know I have too many photos of her, but Kipling serves as a great model! She is always lookin’ cute.
My very handsome fiance. 🙂
What did you do on February 14th? You don’t need a significant other to let yourself enjoy it. Heck, the night before I went out with my sister and a bunch of her girlfriends for a “Galentine’s Day” celebration at Pei Wei, complete with strawberry frosted cupcakes and Valentine’s goodie bags! It’s what you make it!
